A Kink in the Plans

Today is 38 weeks. Just two more weeks before the bun in my oven should be ready to go. Of course he is able to come at any time and they wouldn't stop him, but the average is 41.125 weeks. In other words, only God knows when he will arrive. I had my checkup today to basically listen for heartbeat, size, blood pressure, etc. All is good. I also received the results of my StrepB test: Postitive. Not good. I am so bummed! This test came back negative with Rylen, but I had to have antibiotics in the hospital anyway because my water broke early. I was hoping to avoid the IV and tubes, but I had to come back with a positive StrepB. Evidently, this is just something that can come and go and I just happenend to be positive when they took the test. So, whenever I check in to the hospital, I will have to be hooked up to an IV and that will restrict my movements like last time. Worst case scenario, I get to the hospital and immediately deliver the baby. Though they want me to have the antibiotics in me 4 hours before he is born, if I deliver before that happens, they will have to test him for infection. Our poor son will have additional poking and prodding. This situation also causes us to definitely be in the hospital for 48 hours. At least we can plan for that! Otherwise, we are just hoping that my water doesn't break and I can at least avoid pitocin.

On another note, I might have a very minor, but irritating case of PUPPP. It is basically harmless teeny tiny bumps that itch like crazy. Only a small percentage of pregnant women get these, so of course, I would be one of those few. I don't have many, but let me tell you how they can itch! The only cure? Delivery. So, hopefully, these don't drive me batty before I have the baby. They haven't been fun in the middle of the night for sure.

Well, that seems to be all the drama that I have for now. The baby is still head down with his little behind in my ribs. I have had some contractions here and there, but nothing that is worth even thinking about. Again, she will not check me until I am at least 40 weeks along, so we will not know of any further progression until then. Not that knowing will mean a hill of beans in the whole scheme of things. ANYWAY!

Here is our boy!
Your baby has really plumped up. He weighs about 6.8 pounds and he's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). He has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold his hand for the first time! His organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.

Wondering what color his eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If he's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If he's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time he's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after he's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)

I am so sorry..I can relate to the itching! On a positive note, the second baby is usually a shorter labor...

The only risk of transmitting the strep is once the water breaks, so of your water doens't break until pushing, it most likely won't affect the baby. I was group B pos, and I never got meds, and Justin was fine. His ped even agreed with the decision not to medicate. And we left Nativiti in the normal fashion, no extra time at all. Talk about it, it doesn't have to be a problem. I don't know how Rylen's labor went though, that might be most telling.
